Framing a Tectonics of Place: The Arizona School
Abstract
This paper will present a framework for studying how the best architecture of this region – including the work of the so-called Arizona School – has been, and continues to be, influenced by the tectonics of place: thoughtful in the use of local labor and techniques, creatively exploiting materials and architectural detailing, and informed by a varied and unique cultural history; all in response to a harsh and relentless (yet beautiful!) environment.
Keywords: Architectural Tectonics, Arizona Architecture, Arizona School, Critical Regionalism, Place
