Editorial Team Roles
Founding Editor: Visionary
The Founding Editor launched OJSSR with a vision to contribute to student-focussed high quality science publishing that is open, accessible, inclusive, to nurture the next generation of scholars and scientists.
This role involves:
- Establishing and shaping the journal’s mission, scope and structure
- Recruiting the editorial and mentorship teas
- Building institutional partnerships,
- Guiding long-term strategy.
- Representing OJSSR at public events, conferences and collaborative platforms
The Founding Editor ensures that the journal remains inclusive, student-centered, and aligned with open access and global research guidelines.
Executive Editor: Leadership and Oversight
The Executive Editor oversees the full editorial process;
They oversee the process from submission to publication
- Ensure every article meets OJSSR’s high standards for quality, ethics, and scholarly impact.
- They coordinate peer review, support special issues, and uphold editorial policy.
- Support decision-making during complex editorial cases
This role maintains the journal’s academic excellence and editorial integrity.
Editorial & Review Board: Expertise and Peer Support
Our Editorial and Review Board is made up of scholars, scientists, educators, and graduate and undergraduate mentors:
Their role involves:
- Review and evaluated manuscripts for scientific accuracy, originality, and clarity
- Provide thoughtful and constructive feedback to authors
- Contribute to the editorial policy discussions
- Help shape journal direction and topical focus
The board ensures scientific rigor while nurturing future scholars.
Managing Editors: Coordination and Communication
The Managing Editors handle all journal daily operations and communication. They coordinate the behind-the-scenes processes that keep the journal running smoothly.
They are responsible for:
- Coordinating communication with authors, reviewers and editors
- Tracking manuscript submissions and deadlines
- Managing and preparing accepted papers for formatting, copyediting and final publication
- Supporting author queries and promote OJSSR through digital platforms
They keep the journal running smoothly—every step of the way.
Mentorship Team: Nurturing Future Scholars
At the heart of OJSSR is our Mentorship Team, made up of dedicated scholars, scientists, educators and graduate students.
Their roles involve:
- Mentoring and introducing high school and undergraduate students to the scientific research method, academic writing, reading scientific papers and all things publication.
How? Host monthly online workshops and webinars or Q&A sessions covering topics such as:
- The scientific method
- How to search for and seek out science research opportunities
- Academic writing, reading and understanding research papers
- How to turn your research work into a publication
- Peer reviewing and responding to feedback
This team plays a critical role in building confidence, research skills, and community among emerging researchers. They ensure that students and new scientists are supported at every stage of the research and publication journey.
