About
Aims and Scope
The Open Journal for Students’ and New Scientists’ Research (OJSSR) is an online peer-reviewed, open-access academic research journal that empowers undergraduate students, ambitious high school students and beginning scientists to go beyond the classroom and engage in real-world, data-driven primary and secondary research and publication. With mentorship guidance from educators, researchers, and mentors, students can turn original class research, independent projects, internship and mentorship experiences, and online explorations into professionally reviewed, citable publications.
OJSSR encourages submissions that explore a wide range of topics in the biological sciences, public health and education research. These include but are not limited to biology, microbiology, genetics, ecology, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, plant and animal sciences, physiology, education research, public health and biomedical research.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide students and new scientists a credible and professional platform where their work and research can undergo peer review and be published as open-access quality content, freely available to all.
The target readership of the journal
Research supervisors, beginning scientists and early career researchers, science fair judges and conference organizers, librarians and academic advisors, students in college and in high school, authors, educators and mentors.
Content
OJSSR publishes the following types of papers:
1. Primary Research Articles
Original scientific investigations carried out by scientists and students. The research or project has to be conducted with mentorship support. The research or project should include clearly defined hypotheses, data collected through experiments, surveys, or observations, and thoughtful analysis of the results. Projects may be conducted in the classroom, in research labs, online, at home, or in the field.
2. Secondary Research Articles
Literature Reviews, Computational or Bioinformatics Research: Secondary research articles provide a structured synthesis and critical evaluation of existing scientific knowledge on a particular topic within the biological sciences. These submissions may include, literature reviews, systematic or meta analysis, computational biology or bioinformatics research that involves collecting and analyzing publicly available datasets, running simulations, or comparing biological sequences or structures using digital tools.
3. Conference and Science Fair Research Work
Includes poster or oral presentations and their associated abstracts or project summaries that were originally developed and presented at academic conferences, science fairs, symposiums, or poster sessions. These submissions provide a platform for new scientists and students to share projects that have already undergone peer or judge review in another setting. When submitted to our journal, these will still undergo peer review.
Why submit to OJSSR
Published by the University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries, your article will be indexed in major internet and academic search engines.
Submitting your work to the Open Journal of Student Scientific Research (OJSSR) offers an exceptional opportunity to showcase your research in a peer-reviewed, student and new scientists-centered platform dedicated to academic excellence and accessible to the global community.
OJSSR empowers emerging scholars to gain recognition, contribute to scientific conversations, and build a professional publication record early in their careers.
With supportive mentorship and a focus on accessible, high-impact science, OJSSR is the perfect place to share your discoveries with a global audience.
