Abstract
Aloe barbadensis Mill.(syn. Aloe vera L.) is a xerophyte native to Africa and Arabia that has been used in folk medicine since ancient times. In this issue Adelberg and Naylor-Adelberg study the effect of two growth regulators on the in vitro multiplication rate, rooting and greenhouse growth of Aloe plants. Picture: Aloe vera plants successfully multiplied in vitro using a polyester fiber matte covered with paper to support plantlets on liquid medium. Using the liquid-matte system allowed plantlets to grow larger than those on agar, and these large plants retained their size advantage when grown in the greenhouse.
