Below is a general overview of our publication rules:
- Categories include: professional articles, opinion pieces, student notes, and other scholarly materials.
- Articles are subject to being labeled in one of these categories at the discretion of the Chief Editors.
- All articles are subject to being edited according to the UMass Undergraduate Law Review’s standards.
- Chief Editors have final authority on all published content
About
The UMass Undergraduate Law Review Journal (UULRJ) is a journal for undergraduates, by undergraduates. It is a joint sub-committee between the Pre-Law Club and the Legal Studies Undergraduate Board (LSUB). We hope that through this journal, students will have a place where they can express their opinions and spread information on legal topics of their choosing.

Focus and Scope
Focus
The UMass Undergraduate Law Review was designed with the intent of publishing high-quality undergraduate scholarship on diverse areas of the law, public policy, and legal theory.
Scope
We welcome submissions on a broad range of legal issues, from constitutional interpretation and international human rights to emerging questions in technology, criminal justice, and economic regulation. The journal seeks to promote interdisciplinary engagement between law, political science, economics, philosophy, sociology, and beyond.
Political Neutrality
As an academic journal, the UMass Undergraduate Law Review does not endorse political candidates, parties, or specific political ideologies.
- As such, any article expressing a political opinion will receive a specific label.
- All are encouraged to remain politically neutral
Submission Checklist
All participants of the UMass Undergraduate Law Review are expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, integrity, and respect, both in their editorial responsibilities and in their interactions with fellow writers, faculty, and the public. They are expected to adhere to the following:
- Timeliness: Writers must meet deadlines and communicate about delays. Significant delays can result in work not being published by the scheduled time.
- Academic Honesty: Plagiarism, falsification of sources, or misrepresentation of facts will not be tolerated. Grounds for immediate dismissal of work from the journal, and potential report to the school.
- Students should not have another person/entity do the writing of any substantive portion of an assignment for them, which includes hiring a person or a company to write assignments and using artificial intelligence tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc. - Respect: Discriminatory or harassing behavior based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any protected category is strictly prohibited and may result in removal. Members must work cooperatively, respect differing viewpoints, and contribute to a positive environment.

The UMass Undergraduate Law Review uses a CC-BY-NC license for all of its publications.
Authors hold full copyright in their work, and retain publishing rights without restriction.
Peer Review
This journal operates under a single-anonymous, peer review policy. Reviewers can see the name of the author they are reviewing, but the author cannot see who their reviewer is.

Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes. No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
Publication Fees
The UULRJ does not charge for publication.
Publication Cycle
The UMass Undergraduate Law Review shall publish two issues per academic year, one per semester.
