Imagiologia nacional: autognose em Pessoa

Abstract

Na ótica lourenciana, a imagiologia nacional deriva da literatura, que permite indagar e avaliar a cultura, contribuindo para a consequente autognose nacional, sendo que, neste âmbito, o contributo do Modernismo na interpelação de Portugal é fundamental. No caso da literatura portuguesa destacam-se duas vertentes associadas à representação da existência nacional: uma ligada ao passado e outra projetada para o futuro. A interpelação de Portugal por Fernando Pessoa, na Mensagem, pretende resgatar o subconsciente nacional da imagem desfocada através da conquista de uma nova visão do mundo por via da utopia. Assim, na Mensagem conjugam-se os dois ritmos da existência nacional, pois a reflexão sobre o passado associa-se a uma projeção para o futuro, com a perspetiva mítica a combater a visão deturpada por via do patriotismo, já que a salvação mítica, reconverte a imagem nacional.

In Eduardo Lourenço’s view, national imaging derives from literature, which allows us to investigate and evaluate culture and, thus, contribute to the resulting national autognosis; in this context, the contribution of Modernism in the interpellation of Portugal is essential. In the Portuguese literature, two ways stand out in the representation of the national existence: one associated with the past and the other projected towards the future. Fernando Pessoa’s interpellation of Portugal, in Mensagem, aims to rescue the national subconscious from the blurred image through the conquest of a new vision of the world through utopia. Thus, in Mensagem, the two rhythms of national existence are combined, as the reflection about the past is associated with a projection into the future, with the mythical perspective deconstructing the distorted vision through patriotism as mythical salvation changes the national image.
