Abstract

O romance, O Cavalo de sol (2022), descreve um ambiente burguês, rural e patriarcaldo início do século XX construído à base de dramas, silêncios, desenganos, dilemas, amores,afetos, sexualidade e uma complexa problemática de gênero em que a mulher é sempre apresa e o homem o predador. Tudo ocorre na Casa da Cabeça de Cavalo, uma casa que secaracteriza por uma atmosfera enigmática, confusa e claustrofóbica, lugar onde Vitória, aprotagonista da obra, vivia desde criança quando se mudou para lá depois da morte dos pais.Nesse tempo, ela tinha sido prometida em casamento ao primo Jerónimo. Constantementemanipulada por Jerónimo, ela transforma-se em seu joguete e trata de exercer sobre ela umpoder dominador e narcísico. No entanto, Vitória que se caracteriza por uma atitude detransgressão a qualquer tipo de autoridade resiste à submissão que Jerónimo lhe quer impor.Montada no seu cavalo, ela percorre os campos onde o seu mundo não tem fronteiras e ondeo controle sobre os seus movimentos, gestos e pensamentos não existe. O romance estádividido em quatro capítulos que seguem os movimentos do cavalo de Vitória: Passo, Trote,Galope e Salto. Finalmente, ela dá o Salto e liberta-se das amarras da repressão e da opressãoque a prendiam à Casa da Cabeça de Cavalo, símbolo do patriarcado que não permite nem aautonomia ou a liberdade da mulher. 

The novel, O Cavalo de sol (2022), portrays a bourgeois, rural and patriarchalenvironment at the beginning of the XX century constructed on the basis of dramas, silences,deceptions, dilemmas, loves, affections, sexuality and a complex problematics of gender bywhich women were always the prey and the man the predators. Everything occurs in theHouse of the Horse’s Head, a house that personifies an enigmatic, confusing andclaustrophobic atmosphere, a place where Vitória, the novel’s protagonist, has lived sinceher childhood when she moved there after the death of her parents. At that time, she hadbeen promised in marriage to her cousin Jerónimo. Constantly manipulated by him, she istransformed into his toy, and he tries to exert a dominant and narcissistic power over her.Nevertheless, Vitória who characterizes herself by a transgressive attitude in relation to anytype of authority resists the submission that Jerónimo wants to impose on her. Mounted onher horse, she rides through the fields where her world does not have any frontiers and wherethe control over her movements, gestures and thoughts does not exist. The novel is dividedinto four chapters based on the movements of Vitória’s horse: Walk, Trot, Gallop and Jump.Finally, she takes the Jump and frees herself from the chains of repression and oppressionthat tied her to The House of the Horse’s Head, symbol of a patriarchy that did not allow awoman neither autonomy nor liberation.
