About

The Annual Meetings on Phonology is an international conference held at universities in North American each year since 2013. Its open access proceedings were launched with the first meeting of the conference in 2013, and were published by the Linguistic Society of America through to 2022 (https://journals.linguisticsociety.org/proceedings/index.php/amphonology/issue/archive). Starting with a combined 2023-24 volume they are now published by the University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries. The editors are each year's conference organizers, and Joe Pater is the managing editor. For more information on the conference, go to https://websites.umass.edu/amp-info.

Focus and Scope

Each year the Proceedings publishes a wide range of current research in the field of phonology, including phonological theory, phonological description and analysis, typology, experimental phonology, phonological acquisition, historical phonology and computational phonology. The aim is to provide a forum for the best new research in phonology, published in an open access format. The papers are developed from presentations at an annual meeting on phonology, held at a different institution each year, which attracts broad international participation.

Copyright Notice

The Proceedings provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Peer Review

Abstracts for conference presentation are reviewed by an international panel of established phonologists. Each submission is assessed by 3-4 reviewers, and papers are then selected by the program committee, who serve as the editors for that year's proceedings. The papers themselves are not reviewed - in this way the proceedings appear as quickly as possible, and they do not compete with formal journal publication.
